Overview of Proposed Changes
Let’s dive into the proposed changes! These updates aim to enhance our community and streamline processes. Here’s a breakdown of the most exciting changes:
CONTROL #ART-VI—This change reduces the number of years before a state director is elevated to lifetime director-at-large from 25 years to just 12 years! This is a fantastic opportunity for dedicated members!
CONTROL #ART-VI-1—Now, state director and alternate attendance can be verified electronically or by answering roll call. This makes participation easier for everyone!
CONTROL #ART VI-2—The state director election process is getting a makeover! Ballot preparation and eligibility verification will now be handled by APHA staff. This means a smoother process for all!
CONTROL #RG-020—Foals qualifying for Regular Registry under RG-020.A.1.b will be registered with the applicable pattern type based on their DNA results. This ensures accuracy and fairness!
CONTROL #RG-090—Soundalike horse names can now be used for APHA registration in select situations! This opens up creative possibilities for naming our beloved horses!
CONTROL #RG-090-1—Similar to the previous change, soundalike horse names can be registered as long as they are spelled differently. This is a win for creativity!
CONTROL #SC-015-1—Award descriptions will now specify “an appropriate award” for greater consistency. This clarity will help everyone understand what to expect!
CONTROL #SC-027—We’re introducing a Ranch Horse Versatility Award for Youth, Amateur, and Open exhibitors! This is a great way to recognize diverse skills!
CONTROL #SC-105—Trail and In-Hand Trail can now be judged concurrently when two shows are held back-to-back on the same date! This is a time-saver for everyone involved!
CONTROL #SC-115—An exception to the APHA-approved show management certification requirement for secretaries at APHA special events is now in place. This will help streamline event management!
CONTROL #SC-120—Prizes for Youth and Amateur loping divisions will now exceed those awarded in corresponding walk/jog divisions! This is a great incentive for our young riders!
CONTROL #SC-125—Paper-based judge evaluations are no longer required! This simplifies the judging process and reduces paperwork!
CONTROL #SC-136—The role of a scribe will now be defined to assist the judge and complete accurate score sheets. This ensures everyone is on the same page!
CONTROL #SC-160-1—The rule that adjusted the entry count of a class due to disqualification has been removed. This promotes fairness in competition!
CONTROL #SC-160-3—Definitions of “Immediate Family” will now be consistent throughout Amateur and Youth rules. This clarity will help everyone understand eligibility!
CONTROL #SC-195-1—Specific attire verbiage for flat caps and fedoras will be moved to SC-195 English Attire and Personal Appointments. This keeps things organized!
CONTROL #SC-246—Eligibility exceptions for all Green classes relating to lower points for Zones 12, 13 & 14 have been removed to align with U.S. rules. This creates a level playing field!
CONTROL #SC-251—Green classes’ horse eligibility requirements will now adjust from $2,500 to $10,000 in lifetime earnings. This change raises the bar for competition!

CONTROL #JU-000—The requirement for APHA judges to judge at least one APHA show per year has been removed! Judges can now stay current through testing and education!
CONTROL #AM-015—Amateur exhibitors can now add a designation for Amateur Walk-Trot Showmanship to their Amateur card while still competing in loping riding classes! This is a great way to encourage participation!
